                                                   Bitter gourd gravy


       Bitter gourd  finely chopped                              ½ cup

       Big onion finely chopped                                    ½ cup

       Thick tamarind water                                         ¼ cup

       Tomato finely chopped                                       2 no

       Jaggery                                                                   2 tbsp

      Chili powder                                                          1 tsp

      Gingelly oil                                                             2 tbsp

     Mustard seeds                                                        1 tsp  

     Curry leaves                                                           1 sprig

     Required salt

For roast and grind

            Coriander seeds                                               2 tsp

            Cumin seeds                                                     ½ tsp

            Rice                                                                    1 tsp


  • First dry roast the items given. Then grind the roasted items in a fine powder. Keep it aside.
  • Heat the vessel with oil. Once oil heats add mustard seeds, once seeds are popped add curry leaves.
  • Then add chopped onion. Saute well. Then add chopped bitter gourd. Saute well.
  • Then add chopped tomato. Saute well. Then add tamarind water. Mix it well. Then add chili powder and salt. Mix it well. Let it boil. Once the bitter gourd cooks well and jaggery. Mix it well. Cover it and cooks well. Then  add ground powder, mix it well. cook until it turns gravy consistency.

                                           Serve it with sambar sadam or curd rice.


          Soak the sliced bitter gourd in butter milk for 10 min. it will helps to reduce bitter taste.
