            Kollu parupu                                 1 cup

            Tomato finely chopped              1 no

            Hing (perungayam)                      ½ tsp

            Required salt

For coarsely grind

            Small onion                                   3 no

            Garlic                                              2 no

            Cumin seeds                                  1 tsp

            Green chili                                     1 no

For seasoning

             Oil                                                   1 tbsp

             Mustard seeds                              1 tsp

             Red chili                                          2 no

             Curry leaves                                   1 sprig


1.       First pressure cooks the dal with 3cups of water for 8 to 10 whistles. After pressure release strain the water. keep the water for make rasam.

2.       Coarsely grind the given items. Add ground masala, chopped tomato, hing, salt and 1½ cups of water to the dal. Pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles.

3.       After pressure release mash the dal well. Heat a pan with oil. Once oil heats add mustard seeds, when seeds are popped add red chili and curry leaves. Add this seasoning to the dal.

                                         Serve it with white rice  and rasam.
