Brinjal kothsu


Brinjal finely chopped                                        3 no

Big onion finely chopped                                   1 no

Tomato finely chopped                                       2 no

Potato finely chopped                                        1 no

Toor dal                                                                 2 tsp

Sambar powder                                                   1 ½ tsp

Hing (perungayam)                                             ½ tsp

Required salt

For seasoning

Mustard seeds                                                     1 tsp

Curry leaves                                                          1 strand

Oil                                                                           1 tbsp


  1. In a pressure cooker add all the vegetables, toor dal and sambar powder. Add enough water. Cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  2. After pressure release mash it well. add required salt.
  3. Heat a pan with oil. Once oil heats add mustard seeds, once seeds are popped add curry leaves and hing. Add this seasoning to the kothsu.
  4.  Serve it with Idli or Dosa.
