Vendakkai pachadi  (ladies finger pachadi)


Vendakai  chopped                                                   1 cup

Tomato                                                                       1 small

Big onion finely chopped                                         ¼ cup

Coriander powder                                                     1 tsp

Red chili powder                                                        ½ tsp

Tamarind water                                                          ¼ cup

Coconut oil                                                                   1 tsp

Coriander leaves                                                         for garnish

Required salt

For grind

Shredded coconut                                                      3 tbsp

Cumin seeds                                                                 ½ tsp

For seasoning

Oil                                                                                1 tbsp

Mustard seeds                                                           1 tsp

Curry leaves                                                                1 strand


  1. First grind the coconut and cumin seeds in a fine paste. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the seeds popped add chopped onions. Fry till the onions turn slightly brown. And then add chopped vendakai. Sauté well. and then add chopped tomatoes. Once the tomatoes are mushy add all the powders, tamarind water, coconut paste and salt. Cook well.
  3. Once the gravy is cook well switch off the flame. Add coconut oil. It will give nice aroma to the pachadi. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve it with rice.
